A Legacy of Exceptional Sculpture

Bowman Sculpture is the world’s foremost gallery for sculpture by Auguste Rodin, and one of the most distinguished destinations for fine sculpture in Europe. Based in the heart of St James’s, London, the gallery is dedicated to sourcing and showcasing sculpture of the highest quality, spanning the 19th century to the present day.

Three Decades of Family Expertise

Established in 1993 by Robert Bowman and Michele Bowman, Bowman Sculpture has been family-run from the outset. Robert Bowman brought with him fifteen years of experience at Sotheby’s, where he served as Director of European Works of Art. He is recognised internationally as one of the foremost experts in sculpture, having served on UK Government committees for the Acceptance in Lieu Tax Scheme and the Export of Art and Objects of Cultural Interest, and chaired the TEFAF vetting committee for 19th and 20th-century sculpture for over 15 years. In 2019 their daughter Mica Bowman joined as director, now running the gallery alongside her father. Every work offered by Bowman Sculpture carries an assurance of provenance, quality and scholarly integrity.

Masters of European Sculpture

Bowman Sculpture exhibits a remarkable breadth of sculptural traditions. Works by the great European Romantic masters including Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux, Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse and Aimé-Jules Dalou sit alongside significant pieces from the New School period, represented by Lord Frederic Leighton, Hamo Thornycroft and Edward Onslow-Ford, as well as exceptional Impressionist, Modern and Cubist sculptures by Edgar Degas, Pablo Picasso, Henri Laurens, Jacques Lipchitz and Ossip Zadkine, and significant works by Modern British artists including Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, Lynn Chadwick and Elizabeth Frink, among others.

Innovation Grounded in Tradition

In recent years, Bowman Sculpture has modernised its approach to include contemporary sculpture from both established and emerging artists worldwide, including Emily Young, Hanneke Beaumont, Joanna Allen, Massimiliano Pelletti, Filippo Tincolini, Rufus Martin and Alex Ford. The gallery specialises in innovative, thought-provoking works grounded in traditional techniques and materials, from abstract and figurative pieces to large-scale monumental sculptures. This family-owned gallery in St James’s invites collectors, enthusiasts, academics and newcomers to explore its artist-defining sculptures.
